Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Guide #1 (Vampires)
Want to know everything there is to know about being a vampire in Oblivion? Xe360 presents to you our first guide on Oblivion covering the topic of blood-suckers!

Elder Scrolls 4 finally hit streets this week and it is clear that Oblivion is the one game every 360 owner should at least rent. Even though I recommend everyone buying their own copy, it may be a game that isn’t for everyone. We here at Xbox-Evolved have decided to bring you a string of Elder Scrolls 4 guides to help you along your journey that will span the next couple weeks. Today I will be covering what it is like to be a vampire, the effects, the downpoints and anything else in the grey area that people are confused about.

Becoming a Vampire

One would be ignorant to not know what a vampire is. For those who don’t know what a vampire is, well here’s Wikipedia’s definition so you can catch up on the facts.

“Vampires are mythical or folkloric creatures, typically held to be the re-animated corpses of human beings and said to subsist on human and/or animal blood (hematophagy), often having unnatural powers, heightened bodily functions, and/or the ability to physically transform.”

Now that is covered, I will jump right into how to become a vampire in Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Vampirism begins as a disease that is contracted when you are attacked by a vampire. The short term effects of the disease only slightly drain your fatigue. You have up to three days until the full term effects kick in. In this span of three days, you’ll want to make a decision if you want to become a vampire for good or not. If you don’t want to become a vampire, you can cure vampirism by means of – potion, spells, and churches. The full term effects include the following: skin becomes pale; eyes turn red; character becomes faster and even stronger; character will inhabit a particular need to feed on blood.

There are several downsides of becoming a vampire. First off, for every day you go without feeding, vampirism will grab a hold of your character even more to turn you into that mythical monster you always hear about. The longer you hold out on blood, the stronger you become. Whom to feed on though? Well anyone is up for the buffet but I’d suggest you find beggars to feed on. Beggars are often away from guards when they sleep (a must if you don’t want to be caught) and never have anyone close enough to find you feeding on them. If someone does catch you, it will be treated as a crime and you’ll be thrown in jail.

Technical effects of being a vampire:
+5 Strength, Speed and Willpower
+5 Acrobats, Athletics, Destruction, Sneak, Illusion, Mysticism, and Hand-to-Hand
Resistance to Disease
Resistance to Paralysis
Minor Resistance to Normal Weapons
+5 to stats/attributes for every day you withhold from feeding.
